Verdicts in the Yemen treason trial

Decision of the North Sana'a Court, chaired by Judge Jassar Muhammad Sayf al-Adufi, in case No 5 of 1417 AH (1996-97), on 23 March 1998:

Death sentences:
Ali Salim al-Baid
Haydar Abu Bakr al-Attas
Haytham Qasim Tahir
Salih Munassar al-Siyali
Salih Ubayd Ahmad

Ten years imprisonment:
Qasim Yahya Qasim
Salih Muthanna Askar
Muhammad Ali al-Qayrahi

Ten years (suspended):
Abd al-Rahman al -Jifri

Seven years (suspended):
Sulayman Nasir Mas'ud

Five years (suspended):
Anis Hasan Yahya
Salim Muhammad Abdullah Jubran

Three years (suspended):
Ahmad Ubayd Bin Dazr

Acquitted:
Qasim Abd al-Rabb Qasim
Salih Shaykh

The accused were all leaders of the secession attempt in 1994. They were all living in exile and were tried in their absence. The Yemeni authorities were reported to be seeking their extradition.
