Primary and secondary education in Sana’a. Graduated from Sana’a University: MA in Islamic Jurisprudence.

Prominent member of the National Dialogue Committee; helped to formulate the National Convention and the popular plebiscite on it.

1982: Elected a member in the Permanent Committee at the First Institutional Conference of the General People’s Congress (GPC).

1990: Re-elected to the Permanent Committee.

1990: Elected to politburo of the GPC as head of the Organisational Committee.

1993: Elected head of the politburo's Political Department and Foreign Relations.

1995: Elected as an Assistant Secretary General of the GPC.

1997-2001 Minister of Culture and Tourism.

Has held numerous other posts, including:

Undersecretary for the General Board of Scientific Institutes.

Deputy Minister of Endowment and Guidance.

Chairman of the Central Auditing Organization.

Member of the Islamic Savants Board for the Legislation of Islamic Jurisprudence.

Member of Sana’a University’s Higher Council.

Instructor in the National Convention Institute.

Teacher in the Faculty of Arts - Sana’a University.

Represented Yemen in many Arab and international venues.

He has literary and cultural interests and is a writer in many local newspapers.

He is the author of a number of books.
