The British-Yemeni Society is a bilateral friendship society which seeks to promote good relations and to further understanding between the United Kingdom and the Republic of Yemen. As part of this mission, the B-YS intends to run an annual essay competition on any academic study related to the Yemen.
SCOPE & APPLICABILITY
Submissions are invited from anyone carrying out research in or on Yemen. The essay may be on any subject or field, so long as it is concerned with the Yemen. Applicants’ nationality is irrelevant.
Essays should be about 1,500 to 1,600 words long and may be written in English or Arabic.
In the event that two submissions are received of equal merit, B-YS membership will be looked on more favourably.
The decision of the Committee is final.
TIMEFRAME
Submissions are to reach the Hon. Secretary to the Committee by 30th September. The Committee will consider the essays and announce their decision shortly thereafter.
TERMS & CONDITIONS
As a condition of the competition, the winner’s essay will be published in the Society’s Journal. Copyright of the essay rests with the author.
PRIZES
The winner shall receive £500, and a year’s free membership of the B-YS. The runner-up shall receive £250 and a year’s free membership of the B-YS.
